How to make air fryer sweet potato wedges

There’s a printable recipe card below with the method, but here are some step-by-step photos to show you how to make sweet potato wedges in the air fryer.

To make this easy air fried sweet potato wedges:

Toss the sweet potato in oil and spices then place in air fryer basket.

To cut the sweet potatoes into wedges, cut them in half lengthways, then in half again.

Cut each potato quarter in half again diagonally towards the centre, to create 8 wedges per potato.

Add the potato wedges to a large bowl and add the spices and oil. Toss to coat.

The cooked air fryer wedges.

Spray the air fryer basket with a little extra oil. Lay the potato wedges out in one even layer.

You want space between them, if they are too crowded they won’t crisp up, so cook them in batches if needed.

Air fry at 200C (392F) for 15-18 minutes, tossing halfway through the cooking time. Serve straight away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs about this air fryer sweet potato wedges recipe – if you can’t find the answer to your question here or in the post above, please comment and I’ll try answer!

Help! My air fryer sweet potato wedges didn’t go crispy

If your air fryer sweet potato wedges didn’t crisp up, it’s likely they were too crowded in the air fryer. Cooking too many wedges in one go will mean they retain their moisture and don’t crisp up. Try cooking them in batches.

Do I need oil for these air fryer sweet potato wedges?

It’s a common misconception that you don’t need oil when using an air fryer. You do need some oil to stop the wedges sticking and help them crisp up, but a little goes a very long way.

Are sweet potato wedges usually gluten free?

Unfortunately a lot of frozen sweet potato wedges are coated with wheat flour to help them crisp up. I’ve developed this air fryer wedges recipe without any flour at all so they are naturally gluten free. Not to mention cheaper and easier too!

Can you reheat sweet potato wedges?

Any leftover sweet potato wedges can be kept in the fridge for a day or two once cooked. You can reheat them in the air fryer before eating but I think they are much better to make fresh each time.
