I’ve always felt a tinge of green when walking down the cereal aisle at the supermarket.

All sorts of quirky shapes, innovative flavours and even down-right unusual ingredients spring from the shelves as if to taunt me, as I reach for my gluten-free oats and try and think of ways to make porridge exciting.

Looks like Special-K for coeliacs, mmmmm!

And now that I’m on my oat detox, I’d ended up eating bacon sandwiches every day for want of something more exciting.

This is, until Juvela came along and saved my palette…and my arteries!

With the launch of their new online shop came several new products, including the breakfast range which I was lucky enough to receive to sample. (Sorry it’s taken me so long Jenny – when I’m not stuffing my face with bacon sarnies I tend to have a bad habit of skipping breakfast!)

Today, I finally sat down to a nice bowl of Juvela’s Special Flakes with red berries.

What excited me most, as I studied the colourful box, was that it looks like REAL cereal. Like the kind of cereal I’ve picked up from the shelves, scoured the ingredients knowing it was full of disappointment, then glumly put back.

But here in front of me was one I could eat!!

Opening the packet, a sweet puff of strawberry scent hit me and I smiled – this was going to be good.

The cereal was generously laced with freeze-dried cherries, strawberries and raspberries, which were soft and full of taste.

The flakes themselves reminded me of cornflakes – but with a more subtle taste. Their texture was really pleasing and I enjoyed the crunch of the flakes next to the soft fruit!

In the milk they didn’t go soggy – and the berries really flavoured the whole bowl – my milk even went a little bit pink much to my delight!

Overall, I was really pleased with the quality of this cereal, and most of all pleased that it made me feel normal!

Finally,a healthy breakfast for me!

Being a coeliac isn’t a bad thing at all, but it’s those little moments when you’re eating something and you forget it’s gluten free – that’s when you know a manufacturer has really succeeded!

With cereal this good, I’m suprised I haven’t seen anything like this in the supermarkets before along the fancy organic, no-nothing cereals in their usual FreeFrom hide-outs. Maybe Juvela will be conquering the supermarkets next? Who knows!

If you’re interested in buying this cereal, you can do so by clicking here. (£3.19 per 300g b0x) I’ll be reviewing the rest of the range soon so keep checking back! Have you tried this cereal? What did you think? Comment below!

  1. We have a gluten free cereal here in New Zealand which is great but the amount of added sugar is unbelievable. So I mix it 50/50 with gluten free cornflakes at least though I can still feel to be eating ” normal” breakfast food .
