The Allergy & Free From Show is nearly upon us, and I’ve teamed up with a2 Milk™ to offer readers free entry – as well as a competition (scroll down!). The Allergy & Free From Show is being held at London Olympia this weekend (July 7-9) and it promises to be AWESOME. I’ve never managed to get along to it before but I am SUPER excited to be going this year, please say hello if you see me there! I will probably be the one wandering round completely awe-struck and gravitating towards gluten free pizza.

One highlight of the show will be the Free From Café, which a2 Milk™ is sponsoring this year. The brand will be promoting it’s ‘a2stonishing milk’ campaign and giving visitors a chance to grab a tea or coffee made with a2 Milk™ in their special ‘enjoy a cuppa without feeling pants’ cups. For those that don’t know, a2 Milk™ is a 100% fresh cows’ milk that’s easier to digest than normal milk.

You see, a2 Milk™ selects cows which naturally produce milk containing only the A2 protein. What the hell does that mean, I hear you ask? It means a2 Milk™ is free from the A1 protein which can often trigger symptoms of milk intolerance. Let me allow a2 Milk™ to explain:

Originally all cows’ milk contained only the A2 protein and no A1, however over time and due to modern farming methods, the A1 protein evolved meaning most regular milk is a mixture of A1 and A2.

The milk is not suitable for those with a cows’ milk protein allergy – but if you suffer symptoms such as bloating or cramping after drinking regular milk, and you’re not allergic, it could be worth a try. I’ve never had too much of a problem with milk but Nathalie over at Intolerant Gourmand has written quite a bit about it, and seems to have found it much easier to digest with her IBS.

I picked up a bottle to try and was intrigued to see what it was like. It tastes exactly the same as normal milk, and it frothed up well when I made a cappuccino with it. Sometimes when I drink a lot of milk in a day I get a little sluggish and bloated, but I was really interested to see that this didn’t happen when I drank a2 Milk™. Obviously, I can’t say for sure after only trying it a couple of times if that was the reasoning, but I’d be interested to give it a trial and see how I get on.
