Gluten free bread is like a minefield for coeliacs.

From crumbly, dry, sponge like loaves to tasteless, stodgy rolls like bricks, it leaves me wondering, will there ever be a gluten free bread that stands up?

So when I got a parcel through the door from Glutafin with some slices of their white bread, I was a little dubious.

But this bread actually really stumped me – because, it was actually……nice!?

The slices suprised me first off, because they were a decent size, and they actually felt soft, unlike the crumbly vaccuum-packed rubbish you normally get in the supermarket.

But the real test was with the taste and texture, so I decided it was time for the ultimate decider: The Bacon Sandwich Test.

Ok, so I added an egg for good measure, but egg or no egg – this bread is a winner!

Made with gluten-free wheat-starch, which adheres to the codex standard and contains less than 20ppm of gluten (more on the Coeliac UK website here) this bread is a step above the rest.

I normally stick to Genius, but now I am considering switching to getting this on my prescription.

The bread is not dry and crumbly at all, it is soft and actually has a really nice, bready taste.

Usually I have to zap my bread in the microwave to soften it up, but this was microwave-free and still tasted fresh.

Overall, I was really impressed with this product, and would consider it to possibly be the best gluten free bread yet?

  1. Is Glutafin available to buy? Hubby is wheat intolerant but not coeliac so doesn’t get prescription foods.

  2. Looks great! Love to try this one! The combination of flavors is looking good! Thanks for sharing this!

  3. Snap!
I received one of these sample packs also last week. I totally agree with you. It was not crumbly and didn’t have that “powdery” texture that other gluten-free breads often do.

I like it so much, I will be changing my prescription next month away from Juvela Fibre Loaf to Glutafin and will try a few loaves to see if I’m a total convert!

    1. Yes I must change my prescription, it really is the best bread I have tasted in a long time – glad you agree 🙂
