Ingredients

There’s a printable recipe card for this slow cooker chocolate fudge recipe below. But for the shopping list you will need…

  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: This recipe uses a 397g (14 oz) tin of sweetened condensed milk to make the fudge. It’s the magical ingredient which gives it that perfect fudgy texture.
  • Chocolate: I used an equal mixture of dark chocolate and milk chocolate in this recipe. You could happily use one or the other – or even white chocolate if you prefer. Just be sure to find a chocolate which is gluten free and doesn’t have any ‘may contain’ warnings. I used the Dr Oetker baking chocolate bars or chocolate chips, both are gluten free with no warnings.

I also used some extra white chocolate with a little coconut oil for drizzling on top. This is completely optional and of course I have lots of ideas for toppings and variations below.

How to make slow cooker fudge

There’s a printable recipe card below with the method. But here are some step-by-step photos to show you how easy this Crock Pot Fudge recipe is to make:

Adding the chocolate chunks and sweetened condensed milk into a slow cooker to make fudge.

Break the milk chocolate and dark chocolate into squares or roughly chop. Add to the slow cooker along with the condensed milk.

Turn the slow cooker onto LOW and cook for 1 hour – stirring every 20 minutes to ensure the mixture doesn’t stick to the side or burn.

The slow cooker fudge mixture (left) before melting and (right) stirring half way through cooking.

Line a 20cm square, non-stick baking tin with parchment paper and pour the melted fudge mixture into it. Smooth out evenly.

Cool at room temperature for 30 minutes then place in the fridge and chill for 3-4 hours (or ideally overnight). Remove and cut into 24 squares.

Smoothing out the melted fudge in a lined baking sheet and (right) the fudge are chilling.

Optional: Melt the white chocolate and coconut oil together and then drizzle over the top.

You can use a piping bag if you want this to be neat but I prefer to randomly flick the melted white chocolate over with a spoon!

Place the fudge back in the fridge to set before eating or wrapping in gift bags or boxes.

Storing and Freezing

I recommend storing this slow cooker fudge in the fridge once cooked. Though if you are gifting it, it will be fine at room temperature for a while.

Just make sure it doesn’t get too hot, otherwise it’ll melt!

You can also freeze this chocolate fudge and defrost at room temperature. Great for if you’re getting organised and making it ahead of time.

Slow Cooker Fudge Variations

Want to use this slow cooker chocolate fudge recipe as a base for different flavours? Here are some ideas you can try:

  • White Chocolate Fudge: Switch the milk and dark chocolate for white chocolate for a deliciously sweet version of this slow cooker fudge.
  • Cookie Fudge: Once the fudge mixture has melted, swirl some crushed gluten free Oreos into the mix before pouring into the tin. Top with some extra crushed gluten free Oreos before chilling the fudge.
  • Peanut Butter Fudge: Swirl some peanut butter into the melted fudge mixture for a delicious chocolate fudge with nutty swirls in each bite.
  • Christmas Fudge: Once you have swirled the chocolate fudge mixture into the tin, sprinkle with your favourite festive sprinkles or crushed candy canes before chilling.
  • Chocolate Orange Fudge: Add 1 tsp orange extract to the crockpot before melting the ingredients together for slow cooker chocolate orange fudge.
  • Halloween Fudge: Get spooktacular once you’ve poured the fudge mixture into the tin and sprinkle it with edible eyes and Halloween candy before chilling.
  • Easter Fudge: Make a slow cooker version of my Mini Egg Fudge for Easter by adding crushed Mini Eggs to the mix, or even some chunks of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs about this easy fudge recipe. If you can’t find the answer to your question here or in the post above, please comment and I’ll try answer!

Can I make this fudge in the microwave instead?

Of course, if you want to you can easily make this fudge recipe in the microwave instead of the slow cooker. I just prefer the slow cooker as I can just let it do it’s thing and it makes the house smell wonderful! Simply microwave everything in 30-second intervals until melted, stirring each time to ensure it doesn’t burn.
Alternatively you could also melt the chocolate and condensed milk in a bowl over hot water, before pouring into the tin and chilling.

Can I make this slow cooker fudge dairy free?

I haven’t personally tried this but I have had good experiences using this sweetened condensed coconut milk in my gluten free vegan millionaire’s shortbread. So I’d recommend trying a tin of this (or any dairy free sweetened condensed milk) along with dairy free chocolate.
